We continue to collect support to move forward. All questions are welcome Via email so we can post a quick reference Q&A on the website that answers your specific questions.

Update October 6th 2010

With URS taking over approximately November 1st while many of you are TDY, It is even more important to be represented. The law does not allow the New Contractor to change wages, hours and working conditions when represented.

Without being represented, the new contractor may strip away vacation accrual, any sick leave and they may or may not even hire you. They could potentially reclassify you to a different classification at a lower rate of pay.

We are not saying URS will do these things, we are just pointing out that the possibility is there when you are not represented.

If you haven't made up your mind at this time, it is more important than ever to do so promptly and if you are supportive, it is imperative to fill out the "A card" and send it to us.

Again, this is confidential.

Fill out the card and send it to:

NewsFlash October 5th 2010

As you may already know, URS won the bid for the work package you currently perform. This emphasizes even more why you need the IAM to help protect your interests.

If you haven't filled out the A-Card below, please do so as time is of the essence.

In Unity,

Your Unionizing Team

Update October 5th 2010

Your input is essential for this campaign. As you know we held a meeting on Sunday September 26th and your Site Manager violated the law (National Labor Relations Act) by attending.

We need to know from you personally how you felt about his presence.

It is important we hear from you directly on this matter. Please take a moment and tell us what you think about him attending the meeting.

- Did you feel you could speak freely and openly?

- Did his attendance have an impact on your participation in the meeting?

If you can shoot me a quick email with how you felt about his illegal presence, this information is essential for moving forward.

Send your comments to me directly Jessec@iam751.org.

Please include your name in the email itself.

In Solidarity,

Jesse

Update September 27th 2010

We are currently evaluating your level of support for forming a union at L-3 Vertex. So far we are just short the 65% necessary to move this process forward. If we didn’t get a chance to speak with you personally but you would like to join with your co-workers whom have already indicated support, you can do so by printing and mailing the Authorization Card.

We look forward to working with you

In Solidarity,
The Unionizing Team

Don’t Miss OUT!!

Why are so many Service Contract Act workers becoming International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers members? Our Union now represents over 22,000 SCA employees across the country.

Here's Why!

Highlights of some of our Union contracts in Washington State:

  • General Wage Increases-throughout a three-year contract:12%-22% depending on which contract referenced.
  • Medical/Dental Benefit Dollars:  between $4.15 - $4.95 per hour. (This has an opt out for cash provision if you have insurance, i.e. Tri-Care) the hourly pay can be added to your check.)
  • Lead pay:  $.75 - $2.00 per hour.
  • Better Vacation and Sick Leave.
  • Pay/Job Classification Adjustments:  Written job descriptions that incorporate proper pay for skills and ability.

We have unionized DOSS Aviation, DynCorp International, L-3, Boeing Aerospace Operations, Lockheed Martin, Flight Safety, Delaware Resources Group, M-1, Fidelity Technologies, BAE, Raytheon, Computer Science Corporation and many other workers under the SCA.

Last Year we unionized over 300 Computer Science Corporation and M1 workers at Nellis AFB. These members do flight line and back shop maintenance. Highlights include:

  • Wage Increases: 4.0% in February 2010 and 3.5% in 2011and 2012
  • Medical: $425 per hour, $4.75 per hour 2011 and $5.25 per hour 2012. (This has an opt out for cash provision if you have insurance, i.e. Tri-Care.)
  • Shift Differential: $1.00 per hour second shift. $1.50 per hour for third shift. Weekend duty and on call pay are also in the agreement.
  • Vacation and Sick Leave: Better schedules for earned time off.
