Boeing Suppliers Vote to Strike

More than 180 workers at a Kent, Wash. plant owned by Hytek Finishes, which manufactures parts for the aerospace giant Boeing and other companies, voted on Saturday to authorize a strike. The move was triggered by Hytek’s refusal to negotiate fairly, says Machinists Union District 751, which represents the workers. The vote was followed by a picket training in preparation for the strike. Read more...


Supplier for Everett-built Boeing jets faces possible strike

“For more than a year now, Hytek managers have dragged their feet and refused to follow the law,” said Western
Territory GLR Kevin Cummings. “Maybe now they’ll get serious about negotiating a fair contract with our members.
They’ve had their lives on hold long enough.”

Update - Machinists win NLRB ruling as dispute with Hytek continues

The NLRB found that Hytek Finishes, of Kent, breached labor law in two areas. The company said it will comply with
a proposed NLRB settlement but still ahead is difficult bargaining with the Machinists union.

Update - The Puget Sound Business Journal is reporting that the NLRB has proposed a settlement that would move negotiations forward.

 If approved, the settlement would resolve the nine violations of federal labor law committed by Hytek.

 “For more than a year now, Hytek managers have dragged their feet and refused to follow the law,” said Kevin Cummings,
the union’s lead negotiator. “Maybe now they’ll get serious about negotiating a fair contract with our members.
They’ve had their lives on hold long enough.”

Takeover rumor lifts Esterline shares 10 percent Friday

Shares of Bellevue-based Esterline, a conglomerate of aerospace and defense systems manufacturers, rose more than 10 percent Friday on reports in the British press that several large aerospace defense companies are preparing bids to acquire the company for as much as $95 a share.
