For You - More Comments

Brothers and Sisters,

We use those terms to describe who we are as union members because being in a union means we are a family. 31,000 strong at District 751.

When we choose to pull that last resort trigger in our arsenal (withold our labor), it is only done because the company didn't treat us with dignity and respect for the great work we do for them.

But just as any family, we take care of each other in times of need. 31,000 family members taking care of 177 of our brothers and sisters at Hytek is a given.

If you choose to withold your labor, know this, i will do everything within my power to help my brother or my sister weather whatever hurdles or challenges we face as we face them together. John

Brothers and Sisters,

Please trust the process and know that the sacrafices you make today will serve your families tomorrow. STAND TALL AND UNION PROUD!!!!

Your Brother
Don

My name is Dorothy and I was one of the IAM members on the organizing drive for Hytek.  I had the pleasure of getting to speak with many of you who work for Hytek.  I know it is a scary thing to have to plan for a labor dispute.  However, it is a very necessary thing when the company you are working for chooses not to treat the people that make them successful with respect by offering substandard working conditions or substandard living wages/benefits.  Sometimes you must fight for what is right!  You (the Hytek workers),  as a body, must stick together in solidarity to send that very strong message.  If you are divided, the employer will use that in their favor.  Hang in there, be strong and come out fighting.

It's never an easy decision to go on strike but accepting a unfair and substandard contract will hurt you and your family for years to come. BE STRONG!!  Robley

I can attribute union benefits.
I`m the sole provider of a family of 4, My wife Mary who is a stay at home mom due to our son Curtis having Down syndrome. My daughter Caryn who is a freshman in highschool.
There is not a day goes by that all of us reflect on what the union has helped provide for my family.
First off a working wage for me that allows my wife to be that stay at home mom, ( Belive me when I tell you day care for special needs children is very expensive).
Being able to have benefits to enable my son to have physical therapy, speech therapy, as well as any other medical needs his Dr. and my wife and I deem neccesary.
I`ve worked in places that didnt give a (insert your own explitive here) about you or your family, just how much can you produce before you break.
But with union won benefits and a collective bargaining contract in place, My family and I can relax and enjoy the lifestyle a good family wage union job provides.

I in turn thank and encourage the workers at Hytek Finishes to stand strong and unite to get the fair treatment they so deserve.
Jim

Brothers and Sisters at Hytek

Less than 2 years after I started my IAM represented job at Boeing we went on strike. I was making less money than my previous job but my new job at Boeing had good medical benefits. I had never been in a Union shop before and had absolutely no clue. Worse yet I had NO money saved up to feed my family with while on strike. Yet I made it thru the strike and several more after that.
That first one provided invaluable lessons in how to be prepared for a strike (if needed) in the future. I use those lessons to this day to help educate new members on what they might do individually to financially survive a strike.
Withholding your labor is not easy, nor is that first one completely painless financially.
However if you look at a strike as something you "can't afford" then you have already lost the battle before you ever exercised your RIGHT to fight back by withholding your labor. Had the 13 Colonies given up the fight for thier RIGHT to be free because they couldn't financially afford to wage war I wouldn't be writing to you to day encouraging you to fight the good fight. I wouldn't have freedom of speech and you would never have had a vote to unionize. Fortunately they chose to fight for the same thing you may have to fight for...a better standard of living.

In my opinion you "can't afford" to not strike if needed.
Remember you have the collective experience of 700,000 Fighting Machinists behind you!

James

To my Brothers and Sisters at hytek.  I have spent 32 years at the Boeing company and every contract has been a battle to hold our position.  One constant in all those negotiations was the look of impending victory in the eyes of my fellow Machinist members.  YOU ARE NOT ALONE.  Your battle with hytek is the first step toward a better life.  In short, the company allows you the opportunity to do a job for the bare minimum.  They pay you with a slice of bread.  It's the UNION that provides you the butter and jam to put on the bread.

A lone voice in the wind is merely a squeak, the collective voice is a ROAR!

Bob

There are plenty of teams in every sport that have great players and
never win titles. Most of the time, those players aren't willing to
sacrifice for the greater good of the team. The funny thing is, in the
end, their unwillingness to sacrifice only makes individual goals more
difficult to achieve. One thing I believe to the fullest is that if
you think and achieve as a team, the individual accolades will take
care of themselves. Talent wins games, but teamwork and intelligence
win championships."

It is at times like this that all of you need to hold together as one. One voice to the company that says We need to be treated fairly.
You who do the work and make the company's money, need to be treated with respect. You are who make the company successful,
you deserve to be fairly compensated for all that you do for them.
You Brothers and Sisters need to be able to provide for your families, with a fair wage and benefits. You deserve some job security
for all the hard work and dedication you have already giving the company. You can bet that the leaders of the company are well compensated
for what they do, and so should you.
You deserve a safe place to work, good fair wages, benefits and job security. That's not much to ask for, for all that you do for them.
I know it can be scary to be put in the position that the company leaders have put you in, and that you may have to make the hard decision
of going on strike. But take the advice from someone who has been there before, if you all hold together and stay strong you can get a fair contract.
We your fellow Union Brothers and Sisters hear at Boeing have over the years been forced into that same spot you are in now, We held together
and got a fair contract each time. As will you.

Karl

Dear brothers and sisters, I have met a few of you while we were answering your question’s when you first decided to become part of our union family. As I said then if the company you worked for treated you with respect and dignity  there would be no need for a group of workers to come together to stand tall and be defiant against your company. The one thing this union has always done is to negotiate a contract not a strike! But sadly when a company such the one you work for is so ANTI UNION AS hytek  you must continue to stand together to aid one another be there for each other if one member is in need of help pitch in to help never let the company know how much you are hurting always take the opportunity to show them that you are stronger then they give you credit of being. Stick together and if you do go on strike then make sure you show a strong picket line lots of members and family not just workers. Remember people in the past have had to struggle before us so we can have what we have today, People like myself are here to help and that is what comes with this union a army of help A family of support a way of life. Together you can prevail if you stand strong and don’t give in to their  propaganda, lies and deceit . You the workers of hytek will prevail for what you are asking it  is not unexceptable from a company even from hytek, and if you are on the picket line just ask for the strength to make it one more day. God bless you all and lets stand strong no matter how long it takes one day at a time, sincerely chuck

All of you need to stick together and do what you know is right.  If you decide to withhold your labor, remember that in a good union shop the members who did what was good for all will gain the respect of the ones who did'nt. Some of them will eventually come around. The ones who cross your picket line will always be remembered for not helping you out when were doing what was right for all of you. Stick it out and remember there is strength in numbers.  Good Luck! - Scot

Standing up for fair and equitable contract is important. Standing United is even more important.  Don't let the company divide you, and stay in the good fight.  Us machinists are pulling for you, a good contract will be the monument to your resolve and dedication. I will keep you all in my thoughts and pray for a fair and expeditious out come.

Hang in there don't give up the fight. Kevin

TO MY BROTHERS AND SISTER AT HYTEK FINISHES:

NEGOTIATIONS FOR A GOOD CONTRACT ARE SELDOM EASYAND SOMETIMES PAINFUL. BUT YOU MUST REMEMBER IF YOU BELIEVE IN WHAT YOU ARE DOING THEN IT IS WORTH FIGHTING FOR. YOU ARE VERY FORTUNATE TO HAVE IAM FIGHTING FOR YOUR CAUSE, YOU COULD OF HAD A WEAK PARTNER IN THIS BATTLE. SELDOM IS THERE A GOOD TIME TO WITHHOLD ONES WORK BUT YOUR BROTHERS AND SISTERS IN THE IAM STAND WITH YOU AND BESIDE YOU IN THIS.

WE AT BOEING IN THE PAST HAD TO WITHHOLD OUR WORK FOR A TIME, BUT IN THE THIS TOO SHALL WORK OUT. KEEP THE FAITH AND BELIEVE IN YOUR UNION - LARRY

There is no way that a contract like that is acceptable.  Time to stand united to secure your future with a "Strike".  The Respect you deserve will come after your first negotiated contract. Having been through 4 Strikes myself in the last 23 years an reflecting on them ,  I have benefited greatly for taking a stand against Corporate greed by Securing affordable Medical, good Union wages, job security for myself and my family.  But most important is I have Respect from Management ,it is your time to do the same. Chris

Dear Hytek Brothers and Sisters,

You must stick together and unify as one team. All animosity must be put aside and a true relationship of camaraderie must exist in order to nurture this virtue. If you let the company pit one group against each other the practice will continue and who knows, your group may be next. The Boeing Company tried this exact tactic in our 2008 contract. My job, a materials and parts facilitator, was pitted against the majority of the Union. We as Local F members had roughly 3000 members in it. We went out on strike to protect our jobs. The Company tried 30 days into the strike to offer a deal that would have almost eliminated these 3000 jobs by letting vendors deliver inside the factory. Our negotiating team refused to let this tactic divide the membership and in a move a great solidarity, 24,000 members held the picket line an extra month, refusing to let the Company chip away at our membership. Boeing came back to the table and offered us the contract we had negotiated. Never, ever underestimate the power of solidarity, of ordinary people banding together for the common good. It is as powerful a tool you can have in the good fight to restore our decent manufacturing jobs here in our United States of America...

The IAM 751 Supports you!!

In Unity,

Thomas

Make sure you fight these issues with people power, make sure you are all on the same page, you can win this fight if you all stay together, the Boeing machinists have been doing it for years, you have a very strong union behind, you can do it.  good luck - Keith

The way your company is negotiating with you shows you who they really are. These people have a serious disconnect with reality, and it seems that they only see you as temporary tools to be used up and discarded.  Being able to work safe, having good health insurance, and have livable wages is something all people should be able to have. It's despicable to think that the people who are in charge and are responsible for your safety in the workplace think so little of you. - Andrew

Brothers and Sisters,

Standing strong for what is right is never easy, this is a fight that has been ours, the Unions in America since labor decided that its high time to be able to provide for our families without needing two jobs or long hours worked each day that you are not even part of your own family. It is sad that today kids growing up are taught that Unions are somehow bad, they are told to trust the companies they work for, you know, the ones that threaten to leave our country if we ask for a living wage. You need to stand stronger now then perhaps you will ever need to again in your work life. What happens now will set the tone for many contracts to come. We, your Brothers and Sisters at Boeing know this fight all to well and our hearts are with you all the way.

Every time we had to strike we have been ridiculed, ridiculed by those who cannot muster enough backbone to stand for what is right. It is far easier to point a finger at us for what we have, then in the same breath say they don't have what we have and we are greedy, why should we have these things when they don't. Well it is simple, we stand together as one, we are not afraid to say no, we are a Union. Stand together as one for as one you will be heard.

In Solidarity,

Joseph
